John Watson

Nominee to Mongoose Board. Elected in 2014, re-elected 2017.

A business professional with over 25 years experience of bid, sales, commercial and contract management in prime contracting with market leading corporations.  Responsibilities have included full commercial lifecycle management from bid to contract award of large and complex contracts with Government and Defence departments and commercial organisations.

 

Currently a non-executive director of Community Energy start-ups, Mongoose Energy (ME) and Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy (WWCE).  Elected to the board of WWCE in 2014 and thus served the newly formed Benefit Company during the build and operational phases of its 6MW solar installations, representing investor interests.  Elected to serve on the Mongoose Energy board in 2015, and involved in guiding a new and fast growing enterprise.  ME was spun out of Bath & West Community Energy and to date has brought over 80MW of solar generation into community ownership.

 

Previous five years undertook Bid Director/Manager assignments with Fujitsu Services and EADS on a contracting basis.  This principally involved working with the sales force in the strategy, direction and management of strategic competitive bids in both public sector and commercial marketplaces to a value of £800M.  Early career included serving in the Royal Navy as an Electrical Officer followed by a number of sales and commercial roles in Blue Chip IT organisations.

 

Obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering at the Royal Naval Engineering College and became a Chartered Engineer in 1980.  Professional training has included a number of internal and external programmes including Shipley, Miller Heiman, Siebel/TAS, SMT and Vendor.  Interests include Motor Racing (licence holder), Skiing, DIY, Keep fit, Jazz.
